Solus Christus FAQ's
We are a non-profit Christian ministry for women that gives them a foundation to build on, a first step in their recovery from substance abuse. We are home for the time they stay with us. We are not the final program for them. We help place the women who come to Solus Christus into a long term (usually 12 month) Christian rehab.
You can apply online. Click Here to be taken to the application. If you have any trouble applying online you can call our office at 336-813-3007.
For several reasons:
1. Long term Christian rehabs have limited space and often have no bed available at the moment a woman is ready to seek recovery. Studies show that helping women in that first 72 hours of seeking recovery is crucial to long term success. We help get them out of their current environment and into one here where they can begin to change.
2. Even when a woman decides she is ready for recovery, a long term structured rehab program is daunting for someone who sometimes hasn't showered in days, or fixed themselves a meal recently, or even brushed their teeth regularly, or done one of a hundred daily activities that most people take for granted. As a temporary home for these women, with daily structure and support, it helps them build a solid foundation before moving on to a long term program.
3. Ultimately, as all of us need, these women need Christ. True lasting eternal hope and rescue is only found in Jesus and His work done for us on the cross. We pour the gospel into the lives of these women during their stay at Solus Christus. For some, it's the first time they've heard it. For others, it's a reintroduction to the truth they've been running from. For all, it's the answer they need.
4. We partner with numerous long term Christian rehab programs across the United States, and the consistent feedback is that these rehabs want women who come from Solus Christus. Their chance for success in a long term program is so much higher when they've come through Solus Christus first, as they're more prepared for the challenges and difficulty of a long term rehab. We are the first step in lasting recovery.
We have had over 1,600 women come through the doors of Solus Christus since the first one came in December 2007.
No. There is no charge to the women who come and stay at Solus Christus. We are funded by generous financial donations from individuals and churches, through our corporate sponsorship program, and occasionally through a grant we may qualify for.
There can be many reasons a woman comes here. Sometimes its court ordered by a judge. Sometimes the woman's family has researched and encouraged the woman to come to Solus Christus. Sometimes the woman has seen or heard testimonials from others who have been through our program. Sometimes they were given information about Solus Christus while serving a jail sentence. The reasons they may choose to come to Solus and how they learn about Solus can vary widely.
They typically stay anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks before we help place them in a long term (usually 12 month) Christian rehab.
We currently have a total of ten beds. Occupancy fluctuates.
We accept women of all backgrounds and ethnicities. We do have some limitations because we are not equipped to handle certain situations. We only accept women 18 years and older. There are certain medical situations where we could not accept a woman to stay at Solus Christus (some of these have to do with mental health medications that we are not staffed to handle). Also because we have stairs and bunk beds, a woman must be mobile on her own. Ultimately we review all these factors when a woman submits an application. Final approval for a woman to come and stay at Solus Christus is determined by the staff at Solus Christus.
We are very structured, because they need that. They are up at 7:00. Throughout the day we have Bible studies, group and individual discussion times, chores around the six acre property, and fixing and sharing in meals together. Some days include art classes or other types of classes, some led by staff others by volunteers. Several nights a week we attend various functions such as Celebrate Recovery or a mid-week service at a church. Most Friday nights we have various church groups that come out and share in meals with us. On Sundays we attend church services.
Primarily we need financial support and lots of prayer. Women come to us with significant baggage from a lifetime of brokenness. This type of work is mentally exhausting and burnout in ministry type work like this is common. Pray that the staff would find strength and energy in Christ to help the women who come through our program. Pray for the women who come here that hearts and lives would be changed. We could not continue to share the love of Jesus with women unless we were supported financially by individuals, churches and corporate sponsors. If you have never given to support Solus Christus before, please consider doing so now by clicking here. We also rely on volunteers for help, click here to submit an application to become a volunteer.
Yes! We have a wish list for ongoing necessary items we need. Check that out here.
Yes, we are. Donations to Solus Christus are tax-deductible. At end-of-year we provide a receipt to a donor for total contributions they made.
Financial donations go to support the ongoing operation of the ministry. This means your giving goes towards paying our light bill, paying the full time staff, for building and property maintenance, for vehicles the ministry needs, for food and housing for the women, just to name a few of our ongoing bills. We are committed to financial transparency in our ministry and are an ECFA member (Evangelical Community for Financial Accountability).
Substance abuse is rampant in our society. There is hardly a family or individual out there who doesn't know someone or has a familiar member or friend affected by addiction. We fulfill a biblical mandate of serving both body and soul. These women need physical help and spiritual truth. They need to learn to live In Christ Alone. When you give, you are impacting not just that woman, but creating generational change. You are impacting her children, her family, her friends and neighbors, and her community.
We currently have six full time staff members. Four live on site. We are always here for the women 24/7.
The women stay in a renovated 100 year old farmhouse. We have worked to keep it cozy and welcoming, to feel like a home. We did not want it to feel institutionalized. Solus Christus desires to be a community of women that support each other, even long after they've left here. They affectionately call themselves "Solus Sisters".
We have two primary goals:
1. Share the gospel of Jesus Christ with every woman who comes through these doors. This isn't just a one time thing we do while they're here, but is woven into the very fabric of who we are and how we think about life and recovery.
2. Help place the women into a long term (typically 12 month) Christian rehab program.
Though we're located in NC, we have helped women from across the United States, even as far away as Hawaii. We help women from every county in NC as well as any other state.

We can provide information and refer to other programs, but Solus Christus is only for women age 18 years and older. Please click here to visit our webpage that lists men's rehabs.
The full time staff handles the day to day running of the organization. Our board of directors and our director Andrea Allen handle the vision and goals and planning for the ministry.
